Biscuit turned 6 this week! He was mine & Mr. Kallisti's first baby together. He broke my heart the first time he gave me a bloody nose. Mr. K says its cuz he ain't got no religion.
Biscuit was an orphan rescued by Shannon (my best bud, champion rescuer of kittens!) in West Oakland. We still tell him the story of how he arrived to us all covered in poo! He'd huddled in fear in his litter box in his crate, and had a little accident. The above picture was taken after we bathed him. He was so shivery.
Here's a Best of Biscuit Retrospective. Warning: Lots of Kitten Pictures not seen in six years!!!
He still wakes me up every morning by licking my eyes with his horribly rough sandpaper tongue. And last night he left one of my doll wigs and his favorite toy (a wire) in his food bowl.
He's our Baby Biscuit and we love him!

Yay month of cat posts!
Lordy knows how hard it is to shoot a portrait of a black cat! Our Pekoe is so lovely I've often tried, and failed to do so. After I brought home this little craigslist find the other day (gothic revival child-sized chair), and Pekoe adopted it immediately as his own, I was determined to position him to advantage to get a portrait.
And here he is, my Little King. Now with throne...
Caveat! My cat(s) is not dead! I just love this poem, the author, and the inspiration for the ditty, Horace Walpole's notorious Gothi inclinations (he invented the genre, dontchaknow). He even coined a word for spooky atmosphere: gloomth!
Apparently this is a popular poem in countries and cultures that care about such frivolities of literature... but I had never heard of it until a recent obsession with Horace Walpole and Strawberry Hill sent me scurrying to the stacks to read everything I could get my little paws on.
Written by Thomas Gray (1716-1771), ye olde BFF of Walpole, after Walpole's cat actually did drown in one of his giant chinese fishbowls, to spoof his friend's obsession with gothick romanticism.
Ode on the Death of a Favourite Cat, Drowned in a Tub of Gold Fishes
'TWAS on a lofty vase's side,
Where China's gayest art had dy'd
The azure flowers that blow;
Demurest of the tabby kind,
The pensive Selima reclin'd,
Gaz'd on the lake below.
Her conscious tail her joy declar'd;
The fair round face, the snowy beard,
The velvet of her paws,
Her coat, that with the tortoise vies,
Her ears of jet, and emerald eyes,
She saw, and purr'd applause.
Still had she gaz'd; but midst the tide
Two beauteous forms were seen to glide,
The Genii of the stream;
Their scaly armour's Tyrian hue,
Through richest purple, to the view,
Betray'd a golden gleam.
The hapless Nymph with wonder saw:
A whisker first, and then a claw,
With many an ardent wish,
She stretch'd, in vain, to reach the prize.
What female heart can gold despise?
What cat's averse to fish?
Presumptuous Maid! with looks intent
Again she stretch'd, again she bent,
Nor knew the gulph between;
(Malignant Fate sat by, and smil'd.)
The slippery verge her feet beguil'd;
She tumbled headlong in.
Eight times emerging from the flood,
She mew'd to every watery God,
Some speedy aid to send.
No Dolphin came, no Nereid stir'd:
Nor cruel Tom, nor Susan heard.
A favourite has no friend.
From hence, ye beauties, undeceiv'd,
Know, one false step is ne'er retriev'd,
And be with caution bold.
Not all that tempts your wandering eyes
And heedless hearts, is lawful prize;
Nor all, that glisters, gold.

Reminds me of a charcter from Byatt's recent novel "The Children's Book" of a boy, circa 1890, who was most at home in a secret treehouse.

Two super-cute Licca-chan sets coming down the pipes! Links below to the offical releases. I'm hoping to get at least the Happy Pink Bunny set below, but they also have Hamster & Cat outfit sets, not to mention FOUR pink haired dollies. YEAH!

Volks Grand Prince Hotel Kyoto Owners Appreciation: Alice's Adventures in Wonderland series
Is anyone planning on going to the NYC Volks Dolpa in June who would be interested in ordering me an Alice and perhaps an outfit? She's extra special awesome, is beauty white, and frothy.

Whoopee! Woot-woot!
Just bought tickets for New Orleans in April. I haven't been in 9 years, a cryin' shame. And Mr. Kallisti hasn't been at all. But life happens, ya know. It is our first proper vacation since Europe in 2007. So we're over due.
Will be bunkin' in the French Quarter with this gorgeous fella. Oh yeah.

Mad spooky photoshoot in our original circa 1850's carriage house. Your host le Todd.
- 1996 Moved from SF to New Orleans
- 1998 Moved back to SF, all worldly belongings put in storage
- 2000 - Moved move my stuff back to SF
- 2001 - Mardi Gras Visit
- 2001 - Halloween Visit
And haven't been back since! Check out the wild and crazy flickr album below for past adventures!
I took pictures of our white plumb blossoms a-glow in a pink sunset last night. Pomona of the Flowers was born.
And lounging about on the furniture! You can see what a very big girl she is. For a (whisper) doll!
Updated ABJD Profiles! Did you notice? I updated the dolly profiles for the first time in, um... way too long!

Jacket; c. 1790; French
Red and white striped silk brocade with
silver-colored buttons; fold-back collar.

Fantastic historic dress resource! Particularly useful for isolating by decade the time period you are researching.

Every example is precious. This is a beautiful example of sartorial enthusiasm for the revolution. Or, it could just be a gorgeous red & white striped parisien jacket.

Elfdoll Hana Devil... mew! She was a surprise from Mr. Kallisti who bought her from an online friend. (Hugs to Leah! Hana Devil is in loving hands!) I've pined for this tiny since it was released, and I'm just floored with the gorgeous delicacy of the faceups on all four faceplates. Wowie.

It has been nearly 2.5 years since I've brought a ball joint doll... I recently got a promotion and chose to celebrate with the tiniest Sweet Dream Nana! I was delighted she came with her little star fairy outfit by Kaori Saito. What a treat!

Profile: Hermione & Lysander's youngest sibling arrived at the Blastmilk Orphanage on August 6th. "Sasya" is scratched on the inside of the headcap. Which makes me think (duh) that they resculpted right off of a Sasya head. Awesome.
I know ya'll know what this girl means to me. The fact that she was made at all is such a stunner that I'm completely gobsmacked and have been since I found out about the release.
First, I'd like to thank Lyssa, who encouraged me to put up the petition and is one of Sasya's biggest fans. And the 111 people who signed it! Then I'd like to thank Elizabeth D. for putting in for her on my behalf at the NY Dolpa 2. Anika for taunting me with beautiful pictures of Roselynde for the past three or more years. And of course Volks: Kyon for designing Sasha, and Valico for reinterpreting her exquistely as Masha; Kaori Saito (Left Thimble) for her heartbreakingly wistful dress design, and Mr. Shigeta for smiling and accepting my petition even though he didn't know a word I was burbling to him.

For my as yet confirmed spring vacation to an undisclosed location (yes, including new collar for the Butter girl). Shopping spree at OldNavy.com Women's Plus. Neutrals for this season are still greys and navys. Yeah!!!! Jersey dresses with schlubby sneakers are perfect vacation/weekend wear.

And finally found a shower curtain I love at UrbanOutfitters.com. And a couple gothic cottage bathroom accessories.

Gothic Cottage Style: something I made up to describe stuff I like. Rustic vintagey apothecary with Gothic Revival elements. Gothic Revival sans the Vampire Chic of modern gothic decor. Neutrals are off-white and soft greys with slashes of dark grey and black and bright colors.
And for Valentines Day I got the Red Queen "Alice in Wonderland" hoodie from Torrid store. I think they've sold out from the websites. So, go me! Ima goob.
